All through the year Mundaka offers visitors and the local inhabitants a wide ranging calendar of festive and cultural activities; the following are of particular interest:
Aratuste (Carnival), the traditional costumes are the Atorrak (for men) and the Lamiak (for women).
June 23, summer solstice: a bonfire and the burning of the witch in the mist of great merrymaking, fulfilling ancestral pre-Christian rites to the sound of the “Txistu” or Basque flute.
June 29, San Pedro (St. Peter’s Day): the feast of the town’s patron saint that lasts several days with concerts, bands, Basque dances, etc.
July 22, Magdalena (St. Mary Magdalene’s Day): a feast to celebrate the close links between the towns of Mundaka, Bermeo and Elantxobe.
Second week of August, Euskal Jaia (Basque Festival): the highlights are typical costumes, Basque flutes, dances, “pelota” matches, etc.
October, World Surfing Championship.
November 25, Santa Katalina (St. Catherine’s Day): The feast is celebrated in the chapel that bears her name.
December 6, Txakoli (Basque with wine) Day
